Ragdoll Breed
The Ragdoll originated in the early 1960s when a Persian breeder, Ann Baker of Riverside, Calif., bred a semi-feral longhaired white cat resembling an Angora to cats she found or owned. The offspring of “Josephine” had unique, endearing temperament traits that Baker selectively bred in creating the breed.
The Ragdoll is one of the most popular longhair cat breeds. Social and loving, the ragdoll cat enjoys company and gets along well with people in all age groups and dogs as well. The desire to be near the family has earned the ragdoll the affectionate nickname “puppycat.” The Ragdoll can be taught to fetch and come when called in addition to be affectionate in many ways. Typical ragdolls go limp in your arms when you hold them. They even lie on your shoulder while you let them there. Playful throughout their lives, the ragdoll matures slowly in three to four years.
Ragdolls have quite a few patterns. We mainly breed four patterns of pedigreed ragdolls: seal point bicolor, blue point bicolor, seal point mitted, and blue point mitted. This is what they look like as a baby and how they appear when older for each pattern.
Seal point bicolor:
Our Olivia at 3 months and 4 years
